Moderate Acne – The Second Stage

The next level of mild acne is moderate acne, which usually requires medical attention at the earliest. Moderate acne can arise from mild acne when sufficient care is not taken, and needs to be handled before it escalates to severe acne. Of course acne treatments for moderate acne may be stronger than for mild acne, and a doctor should be consulted.

Moderate acne is defined as that condition in which inflamed red lesions, large comedones and pustules with 0.4-0.8 inches width exist, and these can be viewed easily at the distance of more than 1 inch. Just like mild acne, its presence is not limited to the face and any body part can have it. The age group also spans like the mild acne, from infants to adults.

Moderate acne requires immediate medical attention. The care starts with application of acne products such as gels, lotions and medication which has been prescribed by a dermatologist. These medicines and lotions are generally taken for six months for complete removal of acne. The medicine which is usually given by dermatologists can be antibiotics like tetracycline or monocycline. Erythromycin is also an important antibiotic which has a quick effect.

Females have been advised to use oestrogens and anti-androgens in the case of moderate acne. Isotretinoin and ibuprofen are also used as medicine where isotretinoin is useful in the case of recurring acne. Ibuprofen, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent is also preferred by many acne patients. These antibiotics are used to take care of the bacteria which are causing these pimples, and retard their growth using antibiotic action.

Using the above medication and prescription, your condition is bound to improve in a few months and vanish completely in six months at the maximum. However, if you do not notice any improvement in three months, then you need to change your medicine and consult your dermatologist because it might be a case of severe acne.
