Acne Formation

Ever wondered what is the reason for that dreadful acne, and pimples on your face. How did it appear overnight ? Well, actually, acne is something which takes at least 2-3 weeks to form and be classified as acne. It starts from a blemish and owing to several factors, depending on the individual, it takes the form of acne. There is generally a bacteria that can be killed with proper acne products. Let’s first see how acne is formed.

As you know very well, there are holes on your skin which help your skin to breathe. This breathing is actually exchanging substances with the atmosphere, sweating and other functions. When these holes, or pores as they are called, get blocked due to dead skin cells and excessive oil secretion by the oil glands underneath the skin, they give rise to bacteria named as P acne (Propionibacterium acne). This excessive secretion of oil, named sebum, is due to testosterone, which is working during the puberty of teenagers. Sebum is helpful in softening the skin, and its source is the sebaceous gland. Such blockage of pores and hair follicle by sebum causes these P acne bacteria to grow.

After the bacterias are fully grown, they invite the white blood cells to attack at that particular pore and hair follicle. The white blood cells inflame the skin, leading to heat, swelling, redness and pain in that area.

Slowly, the walls of the hair follicle tend to break and when that happens, the blocking sebum, dead cells and bacteria are spilled out on the neighboring skin. This activity gives rise to pimples or lesions, which are classified as acne. The process usually takes 2 weeks, and it happens underneath the skin. That is why people tend to believe that acne is sudden but on the contrary, its a slow process which completes itself underneath the skin, and you see the result on the skin.

Propionibacterium acnes bacteria can be killed with acne treatment products containing benzoyl peroxide. We encourage you to check the various acne treatments we recommend, either you prefer acne products such as cleansers and purifying creams (Pevonia natural formulas or the Murad Acne Complex Kit are great), or light therapy devices (Tanda).
